1 Litre of light project used recycled bottles to create solar lamps
In the Philippines, as many parts of the developing world, kerosene lamps are the main source of light for people living in disadvantaged areas.
Not only are these dangerous lamps of itself also emit large amounts of CO2 and other toxic gases that cause of respiratory problems among people using them as well. This led to student MIT Alfredo Moser to get an idea for a solar lamp made out of recycled bottles water.
This idea was developed by Illac Diaz, a Filipino student who used to create Isang Litrong Liwanag AKA the liter of the project light. While his name may be a little misleading, alternative lighting system basically guarantees that people are able to use natural light without having the blazing sun in a through a large skylight during the day.
Each solar lamp contains one litre of water mixed with bleach that creates the same amount of light as a 60 watt incandescent light bulb regular. It is always better that chlorine keeps algae from water and bacteria-free for more than 5 years which gives each installation a longer life.
The litre of light basically project uses discarded one liter PET bottles, filled with water and use it to create a hybrid solar lamp/skylight that captures and amplifies the light of the Sun that works like an electric lamp and flood the Interior with light during the day. The lamp does not require any electricity to operate, although it can be a little less luminescent on cloudy or rainy days.
The project is part of the group my shelter Foundation that has invited the owners, students and volunteers to create their own makeshift solar lamps cost zero and your goal is to have 1 million

Money Talks and Solar Walks in Our Quest For Cheap Alternative Energy
Solar energy or power is the focus of the search for cheap alternative energy as we try to reduce our dependence on, and reduce the effects of, fossil fuels. Using solar power as a means of creating a cheaper alternative to our current energy sources is based upon the following principles.
1. Unlike our finite resources of fossil fuels, solar energy is an infinite and renewable energy source.
2. There are no harmful emissions.
3. The harnessing of solar energy greatly reduces the very significant usage of water that is typical of using coal, nuclear and combined energy sources.
4. After the initial expenditure involved with the installation of a solar powered source of energy, plus some maintenance costs, it is to all intents and purposes free.
Advocates of using solar energy have always faced two major difficulties with promoting this possible form of cheap alternative energy. Currently it is not in real terms a cheap alternative. Inefficiencies and the expenditure involved in the initial set up costs means that solar energy is still viewed by the majority as a fringe source of energy.
However great strides have been made in the search for greater efficiencies in the use of solar power. Recently a group of U.S. scientists set a world record in solar cell efficiency by transforming almost 41% of captured light into energy.
Whilst this is obviously good news in the long term it is not enough to see solar power gain worldwide acceptance as being a viable alternative energy source. The determining factor as always will be costs. Until the stage is reached where this form of energy is accessible to the majority of people it is never going to be an alternative energy let alone our main source.
It all boils down to finances and in a world of financial turmoil it is nearly always research and development that feels the swiftest and sharpest financial cutbacks. Research and development is the only way that solar energy is ever going to reach the stage that it is available to the masses. The masses will only be able to avail of it if it is a cheap alternative.
This is the vicious circle that solar energy and its proponents are caught in. Until the stage is reached where we achieve greater efficiencies in the use of this energy and the production of the units' solar power will not be a cheap alternative.
In recent times of economic boom the emphasis shifted from looking at cheap alternatives and fossil fuels strengthened their position of dominance. If sufficient strides and financing did not occur during times of prosperity it is highly unlikely to occur during an economic slump.
Local and national support for promoting solar energy as a cheap alternative energy source is unlikely to be enough to see this idea lighting up our world. If this form of energy is ever going to reach the stage of being a cheap alternative it needs worldwide collaboration and a long term strategy. Have we seen the light?

The Best Solar Panels
Solar energy has become one of the most important renewable energy, and in fact we ourselves not only have her in cars or appliances running on this energy, but also can take home with solar panels we can settle ourselves and that will take full advantage of sunlight and thus not having to use electricity, so we need to know what is the best or most suitable for our needs.
There are two types of solar panels and photovoltaic panels that are traditional, they are perhaps best known, and layer panels fina.La difference between the two, or indeed what everyone knows about them is that the PV can be installed in the ground or on poles or roof and also its size is quite considerable.En the case of thin film, which in fact are also photovoltaic, I must say they are much thinner, which are installed with relative ease in a roof or on a deck, for example, and that many people are much more aesthetic, or to put it somewhat more attractive.
Photovoltaic solar panel, and surely you have seen on the top of buildings or in large fields, are able to collect their energy from sunlight and through the use of a silicone and other materials that allow you to store such energy, its very good when the sun is shining, that is, they bring a lot of energy but not when the sun sets, so you have a storage system that allows us to have stored energy, similar to what making the margin baterías.Al a clear difference between the thickness, or the way they are installed, it must be said that the solar panels are photovoltaic or thin film, are both quite expensive to install (the thin layer a little more), and although we probably will not reach the budget, we must keep in mind that eventually will be an investment of future. You can now spend much money on settling panels on our deck, but think all the money in the long run and over the years, you'll be saving on conventional electricity.
This type of solar panels also "suck" energy from the sun, although many people are still better, simply because they are much thinner, and indeed are able to give us lots energy. The panels are of a very thin film, are made from a material that is lightweight and flexible. A material which allows very thin layers and that is reactive making avoid the necessity of thick layers of other panels.Es why repeat, are better for many people, but can be placed on the soil or tile deck or a roof and without any support.

Green toys: The amazing 7 in1 Rechargeable Solar Transformers
For folks who grew up in before the internet became an everyday necessity, model making and make believe games were all the rage. We could conjure toys out of empty cartons, cardboard boxes, cans of soup and anything that would make a noise or resemble a car or an aeroplane.
The kids who grew up with the internet, sadly never got to experience the thrill of pretending that a cardboard box can be a house or that an empty matchbox can be a remote control that can turn younger siblings into command-obeying zombie-robots! But all hope is not lost for the parent who wants his kid to experience the thrill of make believe games while teaching them a valuable lesson about how renewable energy works thanks to this 7 in 1 Solar Transformers kit.
7 in1 Solar Rechargeable Solar Transformers
The kit basically features a snap together plastic components, a solar panel and a battery station. The components can be snapped together to firm two power charging stations- one solar charging station and a battery charging station- and five type of vehicles including a concept race car, a dump truck, a bulldozer, a concept roadster and a solar car. Kids can either play with one type of vehicle or transform them as and when required and create their own Transformers style plays.
The 7 in1 Rechargeable Solar Transformers can be charged via an AC outlet in around 5 seconds or via the solar panel that takes around 120 seconds to fully back up the battery. Unfortunately the battery lasts only for about a maximum of 80 seconds which might be a bit of a problem for modern kids with instant gratification needs.
On the plus side, the kid allows children to exercise their creativity and imagination and learn how to make models and how renewable energy can be used in everyday life. If the kit is able to get your kid away from his MMORPG even for a single Sunday afternoon, we’d say it would be totally worth the $26.95 that you spend on it.

New York Triples the Production of Solar Energy through the installation of panels in city-owned ten buildings
Green building practices are receiving a boost with each passing day. Buildings are making the best use of resources, which in turn reduces the impact of construction not only on the environment and human life.
Taking advantage of renewable resources, installation of solar panels, photovoltaic systems, green roofs etc. New York is also following the green route.
New York has three times the capacity of Solar energy
The city has completed the installation of solar panels in ten buildings and gone beyond the limits to increase its production of solar energy to help now to several homes in the city. These panels are installed in many buildings, including schools and firehouses.
The city is thus paving the way for a cleaner tomorrow, through the installation of solar photovoltaic systems, which are an efficient approach using the city's resources to promote and support the maximum use of renewable energy sources in the region.
In addition to this, it will also ensure a supply of clean, consistent power and a reasonable price. Bloomberg, Mayor of the city is also trying to be respectful in his own personal life through the installation of a green roof at home and paint the white roof to reduce global warming, which will be beneficial for him, as well as for the environment of the city into a place better for residents.

Huge solar tower in Nevada to generate power for household users
A Federal government-funded massive solar tower is under the final stages of construction in the desert north of Tonopah, Nevada. The 600 foot solar cell-studded skyscraper is meant to produce power for the nearby houses. Situated in the deep desert the huge concrete shaft looks quite striking.
As it turns operational, the tower will be surrounded by an ocean of mirrors to concentrate more light and heat to the tower.
The solar power plant, called the Crescent Dunes, will utilize the intense heat and unobstructed sunlight in the desert to generate power. Thanks to 10,000 mirrors, also called the heliostats around the location, light from sun will be highly concentrated on the tower. As a result, it can produce a huge amount of power, says Brain Painter, the manager of Solar Reserve Construction.
The intense heat from sun will be traveled through some tubes, which are stuffed with molten salt. As a result, the tower can generate enough amount of power even if the sunlight is not available. Indeed, this innovative technique overcomes the major challenge of making power using solar cells. Since the streams of lava-like salt act like huge batteries, it is easy to create power even if the sun is not shining overhead.
The billion dollar solar tower was constructed in help of federal funds for bringing more reliable and green alternatives for power. As per reports, the government program has now expired and so it will be the last solar project made of federal funds. Anyway, Crescent Dunes is the largest of its kind of solar panel towers for the production of electricity in big amount.

Solar Energy for the Survival Market
Paralyzing Blackouts Can
Last Weeks...
Even MONTHS
After a Catastrophic Event!
And while there are ways to ensure your family won't
sit in the dark like the rest of your neighborhood (I'm going to show
you my
personal favorite method for this in a moment)...
... there's very little you can do to
actually prevent these nasty power failures.
Because when a hurricane or a massive
earthquake shatters
power plants and collapses miles of power lines...
all you can do is sit and watch.
If you’re lucky, the power gets restored
in a few hours. But the more serious the disaster... the more likely it
is you’ll be in the dark for weeks... even months.
It’s happened before – with hurricane
Katrina, or with the recent earthquakes in Japan. With many of the
Japanese power plants in rubble, people were told they’ll be
experiencing "controlled blackouts" for up to 3 months in a row!
This is serious stuff. A lot more
serious that not having TV or your XBOX console for a few months.
Because when the lights go out... things get VERY serious, very fast:
- You can’t cook, boil water or store food in a freezer... so it’s beans, rice and canned beef for a month (or government “instant meals” if you’re lucky!)
- You can’t use any power tools to rebuild your home faster... and if the damage is extensive, you’ll need to consider your alternatives (like... living in tents, or in “emergency homes”... while your home is unprotected from thieves and looters!)
- You
can’t keep a light on, can’t listen to emergency news broadcasts, can’t
charge batteries, and plenty more! (Luckily, there’s a
quick, easy and
inexpensive way to power up all your essential devices seconds after
disaster... and I'm going to give you all the juicy details here)
Fact is, electricity is so important to
having a normal life... you don’t really understand how much you need
it until you lose it!

1 Liter of Light Project uses recycled bottles to create solar lamps
In The Philippines, like many parts of the developing world, kerosene lamps are the primary source of light for people living in the underprivileged areas. Not only are these lamps dangerous per se they also emit great amounts of CO2 and other toxic gases which cause respiratory problems amongst the people using them as well.
This prompted MIT student Alfredo Moser to come up with an idea for a solar lamp fashioned out of recycled water bottles. This idea was further developed by Illac Diaz, a Filipino student who used it to create the Isang Litrong Liwanag AKA the 1 Liter of Light project. Even though its name may be slightly misleading, the alternative lighting system basically ensures that people are able to utilize natural daylight without having the sun blazing in through a bigger skylight during the day.
Each solar lamp contains one liter of water mixed with bleach which creates the same amount of light as a regular 60 watt incandescent light bulb. What’s ever better is that the bleach keeps the water algae and bacteria-free for over 5 years which gives each installation a longer life.
The I Liter of Light project basically uses discarded one liter PET bottles, fills them up with water and uses it to create a solar lamp/skylight hybrid that captures and amplifies the light of the sun which functions like an electric lamp and floods the indoors with light during the day.
The lamp does not require any electricity to function though it can be a bit less luminescent on cloudy or rainy days. The project is a part of the My Shelter Foundation group who has invited homeowners, students and volunteers to create their own zero-cost makeshift solar lamps and their goal is to have 1 million bottle lamps fitted in homes throughout the Philippines.

If you're tired of hearing about the harmful substances that are harmful to the environment such as nuclear waste, carbon emissions and other pollutants and do you want your contribution, consider using solar energy as an alternative energy source for all your electronic needs. You already know that these fossil fuels are not only harmful to the Earth's atmosphere but be used in a frightening pace, quick to disappear.
Positive reasons use solar energy as an alternative energy source
There are some real advantages to use solar energy as an alternative energy source. Here are two important reasons that you must use the option:
More jobs-since the Sun a resource that is available in high amounts and is always supplement itself is, it can be generated and consumed where it is used. That means more employment opportunities in the country.
For utility Bill savings-you can some real savings on your electric and gas bills. It can come to the point where you should never use their services again. This will make your House, if you sell to, more valuable.
Remember that solar energy is not only for heating the water or produce electricity. It can also be used for cooking, heating the swimming pool/spa, water pump, landscape lighting, passive solar design, etc. There is much you can use with solar energy as an alternative energy source.
What solar option, you must use
You have many options to take advantage of solar energy. You can a small scale solar project such as solar lights or solar cooker. Or you can do something bigger and use of the full scale photovoltaic solar-home generators or solar panels.
People who want to use solar energy in their new home often go with a passive solar design. If the well designed, you can change the amount of money that you pay for your heating and cooling bills by reducing quite a bit. If you make use of solar energy as an alternative energy source, save you money because you don't have to maintain or to buy new equipment.
With a passive design is a much more effective manner and the use of solar energy than the purchase of solar power for your home. Despite all the effort you put into making your home solar-efficient with that product, it is not always that way.
Photovoltaic cells (PVs) are semiconductors that have two layers of Silicon. You don't need to know how the PV cells work but the contractor you hire to install your solar product know better how it works.
DIY solar projects
Did you enjoy do-it-yourself projects do? Then consider a do-it-project, that includes the use of solar energy as an alternative energy source. There are many projects that you can do to take advantage of solar energy; Some take no time to build on all and they all fun to do. For example, you can create your own home solar panels.
If you want to take advantage of solar energy, consider using both wind and solar-energy technology.
Converting a dependent House of fossil fuels in a solar-energy ready House an expensive investment but the benefits outweigh the costs in the long term. Can you all kinds of information through the database of State Incentives for renewable energy dsire.org. A breakthrough dye-sensitized solar cell enhances power efficiency
Solar power is known as an exemplary way to generate sustainable power. Solar researchers across the world are working tireless to boost the efficiency of solar cells of various genres. Of late, a team of researchers at the Northwestern University has advanced up with an innovative breakthrough in solar cell efficiency. The researchers have shaped up a reliable dye-sensitized solar panel that is cheaper and can ensure better power efficiency than the regular cells.
Stable dye-sensitized solar cell
The inventive solar technology is really a variant of the Grätzel cell, a kind of dye-sensitized solar cell, which makes use of semiconductor titanium oxide in place of the conventional silicon material. The outcome is that the solar cell, which is named after the Swiss chemist Michel Grätzel, delivers better power efficiency and is inexpensive, less toxic and certainly environmental in several aspects, the researchers claim.
In fact, the breakthrough the researchers have achieved is their successful attempt to solve a persisting problem with the Grätzel design. Since it makes use of an organic liquid as its electrolyte, there is a chance that it may leak in various conditions. The leaked liquid is threatening because it will corrode the entire cell. Well, it is here the Northwestern University researchers have proved their credential well.
They developed a fresh material called the CsSnI3 that can solidify the liquid and prevent seepage under any condition.
The CsSnI3 is a very slim film compound, which merges cesium, iodine and tin. It is basically added in liquid form to dye-coat nanoparticles, but it turns to a solid mass so that there won’t be any leakage issue. Well, as per the lead researcher, Robert P.H Chang, it is the first demo of a solid-state dye-sensitized solar cell that can definitely ensure better efficiency than the current solar technologies.

Small Swiss village builds the first lift powered solar ski
Only the world that is solar powered lift is a small town agri Switzerland, Teena, home. The eco friendly lift was opened last year in December after two years of great perseverance. In fact, the small village, uses renewable energy sources to meet its energy needs. With only 112 people, you will find solar panels installed on the roofs of the houses.Loaded with solar panels lift can be found in Tenna T-bar.
Swiss people builds solar chairlift costs about $ 1.5 million to build the Green effort.
There is as 80 solar panels of the chairlift, which generate enough energy to take 800 people an hour. Solar panels are positioned for maximum energy and rotate according to the direction of the Sun. It gets inclined at an angle perpendicular during storms so the snow slides out easily.
Ranging up to 1640 feet, this 450 m long ski lift has an annual capacity of 90,000 kilowatts. When the Sun is at its best, the lift generates more energy than that consumed. This excess energy is sold to the grid to meet other requirements of energy and is a source of income generation. Build green projects is not easy and this solar powered lift cost 1.5 million dollars to the Association of Tenna Skilift.
Tourism officials are quite hopeful that the chairlift will attract more tourists to Tenna. It is interesting to note that there are very few towns or cities around the world, which depends on mother nature for their daily energy requirements. Tenna is a model for all cities and people, which aims to combat the huge problem of climate change, to be greener in the near future no doubt.

Solar Heater With Cans of Beer
The invention is simple: take a few aluminum cans, say 66, and as you can see in the picture is them placed in rows of 6 inside a wooden box and covered them with plexyglass. First you have to paint them black and make them some holes.
The sun warms the black cans, and by creating a different to the outside temperature, warm air circulates in pipes.
Start with a box made of plywood and nails, in which we place the cans of soda, 50 cans in 5 columns of 10. Previously, we holed the basis of cans with a drill, to allow the heat to circulate by columns. 5 Cans below, will have also holes on the sides, so that the heat flow from one column to the next.
Then we sealed the box with silicone joints, so to escape the heat.
Then we encolamos the cans to the box, and paint them black, so that they can better absorb the heat.

Institute of Technology of Tokyo Reveals its New Building Entirely Covered With Solar Panels
When we speak of solar installations in the buildings, the first image that comes to mind is that of a blue ceiling covered with solar panels. And I am sure that not many of us have imagined a blue all building, with all the walls, and every inch of the ceiling covered with solar panels.
The Institute of technology of Tokyo has done exactly what none of us can digest; they have built a new building, which is entirely covered in solar installations. The aerial view of the building makes it seem waterproof and quite unusual, but is not the aspect, is the technology that makes thinking.
The University of Tokyo reveals building covered with solar panel
Institute of technology of Tokyo is considered a prestigious University in the world and in fact the best in Japan. The revelation of his car sustaining building has improved his image for the eco-minded community. The exterior of the environment and promotion of innovation of energy including the roof is covered with panels of 4500. These panels have a total production capacity of 650 kilowatts of power, which is also supplemented by 100 kW fuel cell.
A question that strikes the mind is what tangible difference has this facility in the power generation capacity of the building? The answer is simple; the building has seven floors and two additional levels of basement and is due to the solar panels which consumes half of the power that would have consumed a building of the same size without solar installations.

Black silicone Solar efficiency increases
It is there where the concept of Energy efficiency, improving himself continuously with the development of new technologies applied to the solar panels above, changing the materials used in their manufacture is present.
It has recently proposed the use of a new technology in development, known as Black Silicon Nanocatalytic Wet-Chemical Etch, which would significantly increase energy efficiency of the current panels with your application for a Black silicone that would reduce the reflection of sunlight produced in them, thereby increasing the solar radiation that is captured and converted into electricity.
This technology would improve the overall performance of the panel throughout the day, especially in regards to the early hours of Sun.
The increase in energy efficiency is explained as the reflection of sunlight on the panels causes this electromagnetic radiation is not absorbed, by which it means a lower electricity output.
To this is added a reduction in the cost of manufacturing of the panels, since it requires less equipment compared to other materials used in its creation, as well as being much easier its manipulation to create solar panels.
