Nuclear energy

Humans did use for quite some time of nuclear energy for electricity and so has proceeded to the construction of nuclear power stations.

They nuclear power plants are facilities that produce electricity using nuclear reactors that are devices ready to produce a controlled nuclear reaction. One runaway would be what happened in Hiroshima, or an atomic bomb.

To produce electricity through nuclear reactions, plants used as raw fissile material so-called, providing heatthrough their reactions.

This heat is then employed by a thermodynamic cycle move an alternator to produce electric energy. This is the operation typical of a nuclear power plant.

The most common is that nuclear power stations use elements such as uranium or plutonium for nuclear reactions necessary.

While in its own nuclear energy does not generate gaseous pollutants into the atmosphere as in the central coal, yes they generate radioactive waste which are highly polluting and hazardous, and require to be housed in isolated and controlled deposits.

Nuclear power plants are also responsible for indirect emissions resulting from its own construction, manufacture of the fuel and the subsequent management of radioactive waste, which tend to be thrown into rivers, sometimes even without any control.

They are also dangerous when they are not controlled, as it has happened in the famous accident at Chernobyl, the Fukushima, and also in various accidents that have occurred in the Spanish nuclear power plants.

Let's see a list of the most important Nuclear power plants of the world:
Spain nuclear : Spain currently has eight nuclear power stations, including Santa María de Garoña, whose dismantling is this deciding now.

The other seven are central: Almaraz I and II Almaraz; Ascó I and II Ascó, Cofrentes. Vandellós II.y Trillo. Previously Spain also had Joseph Cabrera.y Vandellòs I plants that have already stopped working.

France nuclear: France counts with 59 reactors and 23 nuclear power stations. Main France plants are the nuclear power of the Genès, the Chooz nuclear power and the Civaux nuclear power
United States nuclear: United States has 104 nuclear reactors and is currently the country with the largest number of nuclear power stations. The list of them you can see here them you can see here
Latin America nuclear power stations : in Latin America there are several countries with nuclear power plants. For example in Argentina we can find stations of the Embalse and Atucha I and II.
The Laguna Verde plant is located in Mexico and in Brazil the Central Nuclear Almirante Álvaro Alberto

Power stations elsewhere in Europe: United Kingdom has 19 nuclear reactors, 10 Sweden, 5 Switzerland and Germany 17. Italy has no nuclear power plants and Germany committed to shut down its nuclear power plants by 2020.

Nuclear waste in Spain

Something as tiny as the Atom comes from nuclear energy, which arises after a series of chemical reactions.

But in addition to this energy, radioactivity , which makes exposed substances are contaminated follows. Hence the need to manage radioactive waste with an extreme control of them.

So it is important that they are stored in containers that can not be transferred, such as concrete barriers, and know exactly How long they take to stop broadcasting radiation.

One of the examples of storage of waste in Spain is found in the Cabril, municipal and Hornachuelos in Cordoba, built by ENRESA on the basis of an old uranium mine. Up the Cabril arrive waste through a means of ground transportation and are always stored in solid state, making a mixture of concrete with the contaminated material to be introduced later in drums which then go on to a container that will be in turn sealed with cement.

These containers make up the platforms which are also sealed with a mobile roof, to finally rest under a series of physical barriers. There report will be based for three centuries under surveillance, moment in which would have already no radioactivity whatsoever. Despite all these measures of security, from Greenpeace they warn us that the area of Hornachuelos is an geographically fragmented area, which poses a risk for this type of storage.

Most of the radioactive waste generated in Spain are low and average activity and come from hospitals, industry, research centres and of course own nuclear power plants. But we also waste of high activity are accumulated in pools of own power plants, which are stored in containers to 12 meters of depth for 3 years, after which it can reprocess.

The problem of these pools is when they reach their maximum of storage. This is the reason why the company ENRESA wants to build Temporary centralized warehouses (ATC), something which Greenpeace seems unacceptable, the more acceptable option for them would be the build Stores temporary individualized (ATI) whose cost is much better and whose construction in Spain would be necessary only in plants of Garoña (Burgos), Cofrentes (Valencia), Almaraz (Badajoz) and Vandellós (Tarragona), because the rest of Spanish nuclear power plants, already exists.

The place chosen by ENRESA to create its ATC in Spain is the Cuenca municio of Villar de Cañas, in which waste will be stored for 60 years. This municipality has 442 and is located 75 kilometres southwest of Cuenca.

Demonstration in Bilbao against nuclear energy and the central of Garoña

After the terrible earthquake in Japan and accidents that have occurred in different nuclear power plants following him, the world once again paying attention in the imminent danger of nuclear energy.

Many organizations in Spain - and the world - are holding the urgent need to stop this type of energy of side. In Bilbao, once more there will be a public demonstration against nuclear power generation, and the Santa María de Garoña nuclear power plant.

One of the objectives of this demonstration that summons the ekologistak martxan organization seeks to give a show of support to the Japanese people affected by the nuclear alert.

And also make a new protest against the central core of Santa María de Garoña, whose nuclear reactor shares the same technology and time of manufacture to the 3 in crisis in Fukushima.

Germany to abandon the Nuclear energy

The nuclear disaster in the central Fukushima with its devastating results, at least we are leaving something important: the growing awareness of the urgent need to abandon nuclear energy.

And this awareness reached, fortunately, Germany, one of the most important economies of Europe. His coalition Government to decided to close all nuclear plants abroad for 2022.

Germany currently has a total of 17 nuclear power plants that generate about one quarter of total energy needs. Among them, there are seven reactors - the more old-already given low after safety inspections carried out after the disaster at Fukushima. The remaining will be deactivated in the next 11 years, advancing significantly the date before scheduled to its closure in 2034.

The generation of electricity that now perform the German nuclear power plants will be replaced by renewable energy sources: mainly energy wind, solar and hydro (which today produce about 17 percent of the electricity). It is expected that to achieve the year 2022 already are producing 50% of the energy needs of Germany.

Garoña Nuclear

The ghost of what happened in the fukushima Central continues to cause havoc around the world, and the alarm broke out in each region where there is a nuclear reactor, taking as examples in Spain the numerous incidents of the Ascó Nuclear power plant, which has the watchful eyes of numerous activists and monitoring bodies.

Central Nuclear Garonya

On this occasion, the call to attention has been raised by Ecologists in action, but not referred to this plant, but the precarious situation facing Garoña Nuclear power plant (Burgos), also joined in an incident which forced them to put a stop unscheduled activities.

This has been motivated because of an incident produced on May 26, when performed manoeuvres of recharge, putting in place the turbines and noticing some abnormal and excessive vibration, encouraging emerging as desist implementation underway.

This flaw can lead to a rupture of the turbines affected, later producing a leak of radioactive steam, which by the disposition of this plant, can be quickly distributed not only by the building auxiliary, but also towards the environment.

The request is that this plant stops working until 2013, when the final cessation of its activities, had planned to avoid further incidents, or that some inevitable happen and endanger the security.

Jellyfish manage to stop a nuclear plant in Scotland

Dozens of times I have efforts and campaigns for various associations environmentalists against nuclear energy. However those who have actually managed to halt nuclear activities have been the jellyfish! Yes, as escucháis… a group of jellyfish have been forced to stop production at a nuclear plant in United Kingdom. We told you about this strange news.

The jellyfish appeared in the vicinity of the plant of EDF Energy's Torness in Scotland, putting at risk the suction of water for the cooling of the reactor. For this reason the two reactors are unemployed since Wednesday.
This unfortunately not will remain for a long time that the nuclear power plant operators are working to send the jellyfish away from the waters near the station, and estimated that reactor 1 could return to service on July 5 and the reactor 2, on 6 July.

Nuclear power plant from Asco | New incident

In Erenovable we get not tired of stress that nuclear energy should be replaced by other forms of energy that are cleaner for the environment and safe society. This is evident by the reality. From the great disaster of Fukushima, to numerous nuclear incidents of "low hazard" that occur in the Spanish nuclear power stations and throughout the world. No we cannot continue relying us Atomic Energy.

image

Precisely, we returned once again this issue in view of a new incident at the Ascó nuclear power plant, listed as a level 1 according to the CSN (Nuclear Safety Commission) and 0 level according to the IFES (international scale of nuclear accidents).

The incident occurred last April 28, when due to a "human error" was opened a motorized valve isolation of sinks, which resulted in the spill of about 25 m3 of radioactive water from the primary coolant system towards the sink. Sinks rebalsaron, leaving a flood on the grounds of the containment of 5 cm, which resulted in 19 workers who were there to be with his feet wet by the contaminated water.

All employees were subsequently analyzed, without radioactive contamination found in none of them. As they explain, "Fortunately" the reactor was stop to recharge, so the concentration of radioactive material was a thousand times lower than normal while it is operating to power.

Therefore, there has been no harm more... "Fortunately"... definitely something that highlights once more the need to strengthen our A LA ENERGIA NUCLEAR non!

Nuclear energy is no longer economically convenient

Nuclear energy, we know, presents an inherent factor risk of producing severe damage both environmental and human health, and the accident in Fukushima (Japan) has become it evident to all. But beyond that, at this point in the situation to invest in new nuclear power stations already is not economically viable, as was stated in a special report by news CNN (United States).

image

The new nuclear reactors are phenomenally costs, since they must has a highly sophisticated technology, through which the reactor is able to withstand any of the numerous risks inherent in nuclear powergeneration. According to CNN, revealed it is a cost of approximately $ 10 billion for each reactor.

Given that renewable energies such as solar or wind power have already reached an energy efficiency and demand response capacity, this allows us to think about a model energy where they replace nuclear energy, and at a cost much less.

Japanese against nuclear energy

Nuclear energy is known for its benefits as for impressive and devastating disasters that can cause, and that always can be present taking into account the difficulty with which handles this type of energy, and as we saw in the earthquake that devastated with Japan recentlyIt may worsen much a situation already difficult.

It is for this reason that several anti-nuclear organisations based in the case of Fukushima, they have held several demonstrations in Tokyo against nuclear power plants.

This is how more than 17,000 people filled the seats of companies as tokyo electric power, which are based on the use of these energies.

The remarkable point of these demonstrations, is that it has revealed that two nuclear power plants are in a very bad position, and an earthquake can generate nuclear disasters such as those that occurred in Fukushima recently.

The Government must also recognize that pollution of the land of farmers would cause a great impact on the production of rice over the coming months, this being also an issue to be taken into account.

Switzerland Evaluates The Closure Of Its Nuclear Power Plants

Despite the unfortunate and very serious tragedy which caused the "accident" of Fukushima, we can see how different countries are beginning to question the use of nuclear energy, which can be a promising way for the progressive eradication of the always latent danger to the population and the environment which is implicit.

Switzerland had already taken his first step to abandon the 3 projects nuclear which had in view, well the disaster in Japan. It has now allowed to see his intentions to possibly take this decision beyond. In a meeting between Swiss President micheline calmy-Rey and the Austrian President D. heinz fischer (Austria closed their plants in more than 30 years ago), the first President has declared that it is considered possible strategy the abandonment of nuclear energy.
Currently in Switzerland there are 5 nuclear reactors in operation, totaling some 3.370 MW of installed power, which caters to about 40% of the country. But still there is nothing in particular (rather than an increase in security controls) hope to achieve progress in this regard, and Spain as well as other countries take the initiative also cut with nuclear energy.

Nuclear power plants in Spain

The world today has its eyes on nuclear power, after the dramatic events triggered by the earthquake in Japan. And it is inevitable to ask what happens in our country? While the nuclear power stations are built with high standards of prevention and safety, are - potentially - highly dangerous before a failure, as the produced in Fukushima Prefecture (Japan).

Spain have already had a sample of the danger of nuclear accident level 3 (according to the scale of INES "major accident") produced in 1989 in the reactor of Vandellòs I. Although there was no leak of radioactivity to the outside, this should be closed and will remain in dormant until 2028, when the reactor may just be dismantled.  Other incidents have been in power plants of disgust I, Vandellós II, Trillo and Cofrentes.
Due to the always latent possibility of an accident and added this to the serious problem of radioactive wastes that occur due to this activity, there are many citizens and agencies who are protesting against the use of such energy sources. In their complaint, they call for the dismantling of nuclear plants in Spain, supplanting their production by renewable energy clean.

Nuclear energy is the source of 20% of the electricity produced in Spain, through six nuclear power plants currently in work, two of which (ASCO and Almaraz) have two reactors. We look at some basic information about nuclear power plants in Spain:
ALMARAZ Nuclear power plant:
It is located at Almaraz (Cáceres), next to the marshes of the river Tagus. It has two pressurized light water reactors. It has a capacity of 980 MWe (Almaraz I) and 984 MWe (Almaraz II).
ASCÓ Nuclear power plant:
Located in disgust (Tarragona), next to the River Ebro. It has 2 PWR reactors with a capacity of 1032,5 MWe (ASCO I) and 1.027,2 (Ascó II). Its operating licence expires in October this year. In 2007 there was an accident of level 2, a radioactive leak in the reactor of Ascó I, which was not notified by the company and that a high fine was imposed and there is an open criminal case.
COFRENTES Nuclear power plant:
Located in Cofrentes (Valencia), reservoir jetties, Júcar river. It has a light water reactor boiling (BWR), with a power of 1.096 MWe. The extension of the authorization of exploitation, which expires 20-03-2011, after the incident in Japan is under review.

TRILLO Nuclear power plant:
Located in Trillo (Guadalajara), on the banks of the Tagus. It has a power of 1066 MWe PWR reactor. In 1992 he recorded an incident level II which affected part of the element of the emergency cooling system.
It is located in Santa María de garoña (Burgos), in the Ebro river. It has a BWR reactor with a capacity of 466 MWe.
Nuclear power plant VANDELLÓS II:
It is located in Hospitalet in the L'infant (Tarragona), on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. It has a power of 1.087,1 MWe PWR reactor. Two water leaks occurred in 2004 and 2005, which reached level 2.

Nuclear power plants in areas of earthquakes, map

That news which we bring you this opportunity is a map. This map world included two different types of data: the areas with greatest presence of earthquakes and the location of the nuclear..

The result is a map that shows at a glance, the potential next "Fukushima": the nuclear power stations that are located in areas of the planet with high rate of earthquakes. If we stop in the area of the far East, we see that it is mostly Japan where more amount of plants appear in "red" areas (more dangerous), and also repeated this in Taiwan. Another point that shares this feature is located in Iran (central construction).

Really this map provides a vast information, you can enter the interactive version on the website maptd.com, where you can see information on its location and quantity and State of its reactors in each of the nuclear power stations .

Madrid: Protest anti nuclear energy

While growing concern by the Japan nuclear crisis, in every corner of the world grow the demonstrations against the use of this type of energy. It is clear that the protests against nuclear energy have begun long ago, but recent news have put emphasis on this serious problem.

image

In Madrid, as happened recently in Bilbao, it has called a demonstration to express the opposition of citizenship to an energy model with nuclear energy as one of its pillars (20% in Spain). The appointment is headed by about 50 environmental organisations. The meeting point is faced with the Museum Reina Sofia, tomorrow Sunday March 20 from 11: 00 to 13: 00 h. The aim is to express solidarity with the Japanese people and demand the closure of the central nuclear in Spainto the Spanish Government.  We hope to participate in this action those who share the concern to potential threats from nuclear energy.

Ascó nuclear power plant

In recent days have been known incidents regarding the daily operation of the Ascó Nuclear plant, in Tarragona, relating to a breach in the actions of their operators and a defect in its operation, which has led to the Nuclear Safety Council to mobilise and new controls on the central.

Central Nuclear Asco

The first released incident was when ascó ii officials reported to the CSN lack of monitoring fire in the building of electrical penetrations January 19 between 11: 50 and 12: 50 report ranked as level 0 to Level international nuclear events (INES)

Was subsequently recorded another incident concerning actions of a few operators who moved a gate from spent fuel in the pool, which was to be designed to separate this sector with the auxiliary operations zone.

If this out, a few days later became known as water system valves opening system it was not functioning properly due to the low temperatures, which forced them to reduce the power until solved the conflict.

Regular inspections to ensure the security and the normal functioning of these plants, are being carried out although long-term solution is to implement clean energy to not only have fewer maintenance burden, they also have a negligible risk compared to the Ascó I and II Ascó nuclear reactors, in the event of a malfunction.

Problems of nuclear energy

Even though this is a blog of renewable energy, worth commenting on some important aspects of one's energies more important that we use today, nuclear energy. Specifically have to talk about the dangers of using this type of energy, that may seem that they are not, a good reason to let us use it to invest fully in renewables.

But first and foremost, we need to understand a little how this type of energy. nuclear energy is energy released spontaneous or artificially in nuclear reactions.

However, this energy use it for other purposes, as we have said before, for obtaining electrical energy, thermal and mechanical.Currently, is a power that can lead to various dangers. The basic energy such danger is the human radioactividad:seres and other creatures have no sensor for radioactivity injured by exposure, inhalation or ingestion radioactive radiation is energy and can alter the information genéticaprovoca cancer, malformation in fetus a predictable accident risk highest in Europe is a 16% each nuclear power plant is exposed to human errors and technical deficiencies.

In the life of 40 years, the percentage of a maximum foreseeable accident is 15.5% in the world there are 440 nuclear plants, corresponding to a maximum foreseeable accident at the level mundialLa % 440 nuclear fission produce radioactive waste the deadly danger to humans by the radioactivity of hard waste hundreds of thousands of añosNingún country in the world has technically solved the problem of storing nuclear waste by one million years in a dangers of this type of energy problem lugarOtro is often used in military weapons.

This makes is destabilizing the world and there are also targets of terrorists and warrior Nations attack nuclear power plants. As we can see with this kind of information can be establishing many dangers due to the use and production of this type of energy.

Human beings tend to irrationally, even establish war dangers from all exhaustible natural materials, this we must deduce that it is not very good to stop as soon as possible the use of non-renewable energy.

To develop Nuclear Power as an alternative energy

Many scientists believe that harnessing the power of the nuclear fission reactions, atom is the most important alternative energy resource that we have enormous power to create it.

Nuclear plants are very "clean-burning" and their effectiveness is quite dizzying. Nuclear plants are created at 80% efficiency, which means that their energy, nuclear fission reactions is equivalent to almost cogeneration nuclear fission reactions in the first instance to enable. There is no waste material generated by nuclear fission — even if the fact that there is no such thing as a energy without creating waste, also some of the measures is part of the environmental-which for. using nuclear alternative source energiakeskus this waste, which is a radioactive gas, which shall include, as concerns around.

These gases is rare for a long time, so it will never be released once radiation contained and saved. This volume of gas waste produced by nuclear power plants, however, small compared with the amount of NOx (nitrous oxide — i.e. air pollution) is one of the days of the rush-hour traffic in Los Angeles.Even if the radiation is certainly more deadly, so far, two of the waste, the radiation is also much easier and save two. Despite ympäristöasiantuntijoiden concerns nuclear power is actually getting more environmentally friendly alternative energy sources and the risk of the contained radiation is very low. Waste produced relatively low volume of the material should not be at all storage and disposal for solutions to difficult thing in the long term be developed as technology advances.

Atom sharing free energy forms, heat and light.Atomic power plants manage nuclear fission reactions so as not to cause devastating explosions, a world of atomic and hydrogen bombs. Is no possibility to atomic power plant, such as the nuclear bomb exploding in so far as specific conditions and use unleash atomic bomb vicious force of pure plutonium simply does not have a nuclear power plant."Meltdown" risk is very small. Although this latter event occurred a couple of times, when one considers that more than 33 Nations divided more than 430 nuclear reactors and nuclear reactors has been in place since the beginning of the 1950s, these are rare events and the nature of which has occurred events were expired materials which should be properly considered fault. Even If in the field of nuclear energy could become more widely accepted in the form of alternative energy sources, should a little question their maintenance is preserved. currently six American States to create more than half of all the electrical energy needs through nuclear power and the media is filled with horror stories of the power plants constantly karmaisevaan problems.
