Hitachi designs independent of neodymium high efficiency industrial engines

Companies around the world are working around some export restrictions which China has imposed when it comes to rare-earth minerals. China supplies the world currently with 90 per cent of all rare earth elements and with increasing restrictions and prices always on-the-fly, the wise road ahead for manufacturers would be replace the use of these elements that is never possible.

Industrial motors of high efficiency use neodymium magnets and insofar as it contains elements of rare earths, Hitachi develops new engine no longer depend on neodymium.

Hitachi develops high-efficiency engine without using neodymium

Hitachi aims to bring these new industrial high efficiency motors which are at the same time with those who use neodymium in 2014. For those unaware, an engine consist of the stationary core, called the stator and the rotating part that is quite properly called the rotor.

Instead of using the current Hitachi magnet is using an amorphous metal for the iron core. This is combined with a Ferrite magnet for the part of the rotor of the motor.

The combination gives an engine that is as energy-efficient as that currently uses a neodymium magnet to the rotor.

Changing the method of processing of amorphous metal used in the core of the stator and changing the design of the engine in general, Hitachi and Hitachi industrial equipment systems have devised the perfect combination that not to lose power and help produce cheaper engines because they don't have to worry about the use of rare-earth metal already.

The efficiency of the newly developed engines IE4, which is an indication that they are in fact as efficient as any other on the planet today.

A breakthrough dye-sensitized solar cell enhances power efficiency

Solar power is known as an exemplary way to generate sustainable power. Solar researchers across the world are working tireless to boost the efficiency of solar cells of various genres. Of late, a team of researchers at the Northwestern University has advanced up with an innovative breakthrough in solar cell efficiency. The researchers have shaped up a reliable dye-sensitized solar panel that is cheaper and can ensure better power efficiency than the regular cells.

Stable dye-sensitized solar cell
The inventive solar technology is really a variant of the Grätzel cell, a kind of dye-sensitized solar cell, which makes use of semiconductor titanium oxide in place of the conventional silicon material. The outcome is that the solar cell, which is named after the Swiss chemist Michel Grätzel, delivers better power efficiency and is inexpensive, less toxic and certainly environmental in several aspects, the researchers claim.

In fact, the breakthrough the researchers have achieved is their successful attempt to solve a persisting problem with the Grätzel design. Since it makes use of an organic liquid as its electrolyte, there is a chance that it may leak in various conditions. The leaked liquid is threatening because it will corrode the entire cell. Well, it is here the Northwestern University researchers have proved their credential well.

They developed a fresh material called the CsSnI3 that can solidify the liquid and prevent seepage under any condition.

The CsSnI3 is a very slim film compound, which merges cesium, iodine and tin. It is basically added in liquid form to dye-coat nanoparticles, but it turns to a solid mass so that there won’t be any leakage issue. Well, as per the lead researcher, Robert P.H Chang, it is the first demo of a solid-state dye-sensitized solar cell that can definitely ensure better efficiency than the current solar technologies.

Black silicone Solar efficiency increases

It is there where the concept of Energy efficiency, improving himself continuously with the development of new technologies applied to the solar panels above, changing the materials used in their manufacture is present.

It has recently proposed the use of a new technology in development, known as Black Silicon Nanocatalytic Wet-Chemical Etch, which would significantly increase energy efficiency of the current panels with your application for a Black silicone that would reduce the reflection of sunlight produced in them, thereby increasing the solar radiation that is captured and converted into electricity.

This technology would improve the overall performance of the panel throughout the day, especially in regards to the early hours of Sun.

The increase in energy efficiency is explained as the reflection of sunlight on the panels causes this electromagnetic radiation is not absorbed, by which it means a lower electricity output.

To this is added a reduction in the cost of manufacturing of the panels, since it requires less equipment compared to other materials used in its creation, as well as being much easier its manipulation to create solar panels.

Flexible with 95% efficiency solar map

In the field of renewable energy sources, the concept of energy efficiency is very used to develop new technologies, found in the genre of solar energy the use of new components, and up the application of nanotechnology, especially in those lower thickness panels that can have a myriad of applications.

On this occasion, the progress has been made with the creation of a Flexible Solar blade, a material that uses the concepts and conventional theories of photovoltaic solar panels , combined to various structures of size reduced, baptized as Nano-antennas.

This technology had previously been used in some industrial processes, allowing collect heat from different machines to be able to turn them into electrical impulses, and that they would be now applied en masse and for the production of energy electric.

Support for these "Nantennas" would be flexible, Moldable and application in an endless number of substrates, as it is a simile sheet of paper, obtained in addition a performance close to 95% energy efficiency more than favorable for the mass production of this technology.

For the time being, the Idaho National Laboratory is working on this prototype, and conducting various analyses in this regard.

UN | Energy efficiency programme for East Africa

In many underdeveloped Nations, always worrying factor is the energy supply. For the particular case of several countries in East Africa, the United Nations has created a new program to promote energy efficiency, particularly in large buildings in the cities that are the item with higher energy consumption in the region.

The programme is carried out by various agencies linked to the United Nations (UN-habitat, UNEP and GEF) and you will have an approximate budget of $2,853,000. The countries covered by this project are Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. The planned measures include: awareness campaigns, fiscal and financial incentives and changes in regulations of construction of housing.

It is estimated that in these countries around 40% of domestic energy consumption is done in buildings in cities. This high proportion is on the other hand limitations in access to energy resources for items such as industry and transport, essential for economic development. The reason for the over-consumption is that the buildings are not designed properly for the climatic conditions of the region, cause that leads to waste much energy in lighting, ventilation and - mainly-refrigeration.

Nanotechnology: 10 times more efficiency in the absorption of light in solar cells

The contributions of nanotechnology or nanoscience seem endless, since it opens up new worlds to scientists, where things behave differently when you thought if they are carried the minimum scale of chemistry part of a meter (nanometer). And research and innovation in the field of solar energy is taking great benefit from this.

image

In this case will bring new research forward by engineers of the University of Stanford. This team has designed blades solar cells that can absorb sunlight much more efficiently than cells thick, expensive, and made from Silicon. The key lies in light behaves differently from close to the nanometer scale.

The result is that – by combining different thin layers of films of organic polymers is absorbed 10 times more light than I thought possible. This is achieved because they have managed to retain the light within the solar cell for longer. The longer stays the photon bouncing in the cell, more energy you can get it. A key factor in achieving this behavior of the wavelength of light was rough materials used.

Visible light has waves of about 400 to 700 nanometers.Stanford scientists decided to experiment with thick materials substantially lower the light wave, and noted that in this way can confine light longer achieving excellent results.

Apart from its high productivity the solar cells at the nanometric have other advantages: materials are expensive, and their manufacture is simpler than silicon-based cells.

New process of conversion of solar energy that duplicates the efficiency

Scientists from the University of Stanford have developed a new process, simultaneously combines light and solar heat to generate electricity. Its primary importance is that it is estimated that this new method could be more than twice the efficiency that delivers current technology in solar panels

image

Stanford who participated in the research engineers have called this process P.E.T.E. (original name in English: "photon enhanced thermionic emission").But apart from the increase in efficiency, P.E.T.E. Another great advantage: the reduction of the cost of production of solar energy. Both benefits (more efficiently for less cost) unregulated competition with oil as a source of energy.

Currently used in the solar photovoltaic technology becomes less efficient as the temperature increases. Unlike her P.E.T.E. processworks best at high temperatures, above the 200 degrees celsius. For this reason, the new process works better parabolic dishes that rooftop solar panels.

The materials needed to build a device that works with this new technology are inexpensive and are easily achieved. This allows you to be one of alternative clean energy can be used by a large number of people.
