Artificial clouds: A wonder for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games

Two years from now and the city of Sochi will host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Russia. During the event you might witness the wonder of artificial clouds, designed by Asadov architectural Studio. It was originally conceptualized for the Aerostatic architectural competition in 2010 and you can now see the light like modular clouds floating through the Olympic city.

The underlying technology of the project is based on a universal system of modules that can be grouped and separated at high altitudes. The basic structure of the clouds is supported by an aluminium fitted by a fabric membrane chassis.

For the stable vertical movement, the clouds have connected rigidly with each other.
The lower parts of the modules define funnels of rain, which they accumulate moisture and can make to pour down as rain. The upper layer is integrated with solar elements, that will be the solar energy that can be used for lighting, as well as life support.

Emotion on the various scenarios that clouds will be different uses is quite prominent. They can be used to cover forms of park or accommodate VIPs in the areas of skiing mountain, etc.. Once the Olympics are done with the 'clouds' can be used in the streets of the canopy to various festivals, remaining integral for entertainment in the city of Sochi.

Treepods, trees artificial ecological

It is difficult to say that a tree is not ecological, when they are one of the greatest exponents of the nature to preserve the world, because that can recycle carbon dioxide from the air and turn it into clean oxygen, but the Treepods, a project designed by Mario Cáceres and Christian Canon, let do it also, but so much more efficient through the use of technology.

But in addition to cleaning the air, these Treepods include solar panels of photovoltaic energy and a system of kinetic energy which collects energy that occurs when using a weight of trees.

This energy that the trees produce is that feeds the process of filtration of the air, but also gives power to a small interior lights that give incandescent appearance to trees at night, allowing to reduce electricity consumption by night lighting.

Including, these trees are constructed from recycled materials and recyclable, and can be recycled in the future if necessary.

Artificial leaf that Imitates Photosynthesis - Solar energy

Now we have spoken above of various scientific projects to develop artificial leaves that mimic photosynthesis and they take advantage of the solar energy to generate renewable energy. In this case, we will tell of further progress in this regard with a feature that distinguishes it from other similar: (its components nickel and cobalt) make economically viable, to the point that there are potentially interested in manufacturing companies.

In the Edition number 241 of the national meeting of the American Chemical Society has made the formal announcement of this scientific breakthrough. He is - as I anticipated - an"artificial leafthat could be used to generate energy enough for the daily maintenance of the energy needs of all a home, something is expected to apply in those areas without coverage of the power grid in developing countries.

This advanced solar cell has a dimension similar to a tile and is composed of silicon, electronic compounds and catalytic converters.

Instead of directly convert sunlight into energy (as do the photovoltaic solar cells), follows a different process. Similar to a "natural" sheet using water to imitate the process of photosynthesis, by placing in a container with water under the ray of the Sun "artificial leaf" can be divided the H2O molecule into oxygen and hydrogen, collecting these gases in a cell of fuel.
